Engine is out

I spent the better part of two nights dropping the engine out of the car.  I've linked to a couple of websites which walk through the process of removing the engine from an mkII mr2.  You'll notice that both sites use an engine hoist to lower the engine to the ground and one site even utilizes a 4 post lift to raise the car up.  I own neither of these useful pieces of equipment nor do I have garage space.  This makes the engine removal process trickier.  It is definitely not impossible but the order in which parts are removed is crucial.  At the very least 4 jack stands, two jacks, and cinder blocks or pieces of 2 by 4 or required.
First completely remove the intake and intercooler pipes, drain the oil and coolant, disconnect the engine wiring harness and vacuum tubes.  Removing the turbo, exhaust manifold, and downpipe as an assembly makes for easy access to the front engine mount without having to crawl under the car.  I was lucky that my exhaust manifold studs did not strip upon removal although some of the nuts were rusted and I ended up removing the whole stud with the nuts.  It is common for the studs to strip therefore I would caution anyone trying to remove the stock exhaust manifold.  Although it is not necessary, removing the intake manifold lowers the overall height of the engine therefore not requiring the car to be raised as high to pull the engine out.  The next step is to unbolt the cross member from the chassis.  Then put a dolly under the engine and transaxle and lower the car until they both rest on the dolly.  This requires you to remove the wheels and put padding under the brake rotors.  Once the engine is on the dolly, remove the engine mounts.  Once the engine is completely free, jack up the car again to raise it to clear the top of the engine, put the wheels on, remove the strut and spring assemblies.  As you are raising the car, the entire rear suspension will stay on the ground with the engine and once the car is high enough you can roll everything out from under the car.

Once I got the engine and suspension out of the car I had to call it quits.  The next steps are to remove the axles so that the engine and transaxle will be separate from the rear suspension so that I can put the suspension back on the car to make it a rolling chassis.  After that I will be tucking the body wiring harness out of the engine bay as well as painting the engine bay in the Corvette Arctic White.  This will dramatically change the appearance of the engine bay by getting rid of the original red.  Eventually the entire car will be repainted in the same Arctic White.
